Pink Tourism in Tasmania

Tasmania’s gay and lesbian history is rich and dramatic. Historic extremes of repression and freedom have culminated in recent world-class social reforms. Rainbow Tasmania is keen to promote exploration of our beautiful state to other rainbow people.

Rainbow Tasmania Tourism Accreditation In conjunction with Tourism Tasmania, the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania and the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Rainbow Tasmania has developed a Rainbow Tourism accreditation program for tourism and hospitality businesses. To receive accreditation under the program as a gay-friendly operator a business needs to demonstrate that:
  • The owners and employees are aware of the provisions of the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Act
  • Steps have been taken to ensure that the workplace is free from harassment and discrimination
  • The business is developing GLBTI Cultural Awareness
  • That GLBTI tourists will be provided with information about local support and services
